Frequently asked questions
What happens if I fail an exam?
Not really that much. Although it can be nice to pass it on the first try, there are more opportunities, and there are re-exam periods at both Easter and August. Just keep an eye on the CSN limit, if you have too many courses behind you it can be difficult to get a study grant.
Exam period- what is that?
An exam period is the period when all exams are written. LTH has chosen to have 4 exam periods per academic year. Before the exam period, there is a week of studying without lectures or new course content.
Do I have to attend all the lectures and exercises?
Unless otherwise stated, lectures and exercises are optional. However, the resources available are very good for understanding and learning the course material. They are there for your benefit and the amount of teaching students participate in is very individual. Try and see what works for you!
Do I have to be part of the nollning?
Participating in the nollning is completely voluntary. Even if you participate, you don't have to attend all the events, most people miss at least something. During the nollning there are many different types of events, so participate in the events you think sound fun! The nollning is for the Nolla and is a good way for the Nolla to find friends and learn more about student life, and also get guidance from the mentors. Should you choose not to participate, there are several other ways to find friends!
How do I buy course literature?
LTH's campus has a campus bookstore where both used and new course literature is sold. It is located in the study center and is called KFS student bookstore. On Facebook, the section also has a group where W-ers can buy and sell used course literature, search for “W-sektionens bokbytargrupp”.
How is it to study att university compared to high school?
University studies have a different structure and pace than high school studies! Most courses run over either one or two study periods, where a study period ends with an exam period, and then new courses start the following week. Not all scheduled elements are mandatory, and when you have gaps in your schedule, you can choose how you organize your studies. The elements in the schedule are mainly exercises, lectures or seminars. There may also be excursions, labs and a few other things where information comes well in advance. It requires more personal responsibility from you as a student, but university studies are often experienced as both more fun and freer than high school studies!
Your rights as a new student
In order to maintain good cohesion within Teknologkåren at LTH, there are several regulatory documents that describe how we should act towards one another. Here we have tried to summarise your rights as a new student. If someone has infringed upon your rights, or if you have other questions, you may contact one of the Phøs, the Equal Opportunities Representative,
the Head of Introduction, or the President. Contact details can be found below.
Respect and Treatment
The organisation of Teknologkåren at LTH should be characterised by joy, community, openness,
and acceptance. The introduction shall be inclusive. Our vision is that all students should be
treated well and on equal terms. We have zero tolerance towards harassment, discrimination, and
abusive treatment. Zero tolerance does not mean that incidents never occur, but that if they do,
we are obliged to address them, work preventively, and support the person affected. Participation
in the introduction should also always be entirely voluntary.
Alcohol and Drugs
Teknologkåren at LTH shall promote a healthy approach to alcohol. Choosing non-alcoholic
alternatives should always be a natural option, and no one should feel pressured or forced to
consume alcohol to fit in at events arranged by Teknologkåren (and thereby also the guilds). This
means that you should not have to endure peer pressure or questioning comments if you choose
to drink less or not at all. A “no” is always a no, and a “maybe” is also a no. During the
introduction, there are both alcohol-free activities and activities where alcohol is served.
We also have zero tolerance towards drug use.
Position of Power
Mentors and other volunteers may hold a position of power in relation to new students. It is
therefore important that all volunteers include the new students, do not treat them differently,
and refrain from intimate relations with them. This applies both to language and to all kinds of
actions.
You Decide Where the Line is Drawn
No one else can decide whether or not you have been subjected to harassment, abusive treatment, or discrimination. Only you can determine that. An event or situation is to be considered abusive if it is perceived as such. If you feel disrespected or poorly treated by a volunteer during the introduction, the Øverphøs, in consultation with the Head of Introduction, may talk to the person, issue a warning, or suspend the person from participation during the introduction. If you do not wish to contact the Øwerphøs, you may also reach out to any of the other people listed below. All of them can also answer questions about the process or our regulatory documents.

Wordlist
Here are a few words that we use a lot that you may need help to understand :)
Nollning: A name for the initiation weeks at LTH. This is organized by the students and none of the events are mandatory to attend:) However, it is a great way to meet new people in your guild, as well as new people at LTH. Events include pubs, parties, study sessions, outdoor activities etc.
Academic Quarter: The times in the schedule are written 15 minutes before the actual time so that students will arrive on time. If your schedule says 8:00 in the morning, the lecturer will not start the lecture until 8:15. However if there is an event that says it starts at 18:00 (..), the event starts at 18:00 sharp!
Tenta: The name for exams. A word synonymous with stress, crying and coffee.
Missions (Uppdrag): You will be divided into different mission groups during the first week. Depending on your mission, you will compete against the other guilds during the following weekend. All the international students will be placed into the same mission group.
Monument: Different monuments are placed around campus, one for each section/guild. Students tend to paint these (when no one sees!) in their own guilds colour (ours is turquoise).
Overall (Ouwe): The finest, most practical garment available. With these you can fit everything you need, and do not have to think about what pants to wear.
Phadder: Phadder, in plural phaddrar, are older students (mentors) who are here to welcome you during the “nollning”. They will be responsible for a group of new students and support them during their first weeks in Lund.
Sexmästeriet (Sexet): The committee that fixes food during various sessions and organizes the best parties!
Sittning: The translation is a “sit down” as one often sits down during the event whilst being offered food, drink and entertainment! After the sittning, there is usually a “släpp” where the room the sittning was held in, gets turned into a club.
Spex: An entertaining performance during a sittning that could include singing, dancing and much more.
Gasque: A night you do not want to miss! Think of it as a luxury sittning where everyone gets to dress up in their finest attire and attend a night of fine dining, entertaining and a night of dancing you will never forget.
Gasque: also a location at LTH where many events are held. Do not mix up with Gasqu the sittning mentioned above…
Sjøn Sjøn: The one and only lake on LTH-s campus. The literal translation means “lake lake” and the island in the middle of the lake is called the “island island”.
Nation: A core part of the student life in Lund, the nations as well as the guilds are student led organizations that organize different activities and parties. The different nations also offer lunches, dinners and brunches throughout the week. They also host clubs on different nights of the week. To be able to attend these clubs you have to become a member of one of these nations! In Lund there are 13 nations. If you are interested you can also work voluntarily for these nations in exchange for different perks
