Frequently asked questions
What happens if I fail an exam?
Not really that much. Although it can be nice to pass it on the first try, there are more opportunities, and there are re-exam periods at both Easter and August. Just keep an eye on the CSN limit, if you have too many courses behind you it can be difficult to get a study grant.
Exam period- what is that?
An exam period is the period when all exams are written. LTH has chosen to have 4 exam periods per academic year. Before the exam period, there is a week of studying without lectures or new course content.
Do I have to attend all the lectures and exercises?
Unless otherwise stated, lectures and exercises are optional. However, the resources available are very good for understanding and learning the course material. They are there for your benefit and the amount of teaching students participate in is very individual. Try and see what works for you!
Do I have to be part of the nollning?
Participating in the nollning is completely voluntary. Even if you participate, you don't have to attend all the events, most people miss at least something. During the nollning there are many different types of events, so participate in the events you think sound fun! The nollning is for the Nolla and is a good way for the Nolla to find friends and learn more about student life, and also get guidance from the mentors. Should you choose not to participate, there are several other ways to find friends!
How do I buy course literature?
LTH's campus has a campus bookstore where both used and new course literature is sold. It is located in the study center and is called KFS student bookstore. On Facebook, the section also has a group where W-ers can buy and sell used course literature, search for “W-sektionens bokbytargrupp”.
How is it to study att university compared to high school?
University studies have a different structure and pace than high school studies! Most courses run over either one or two study periods, where a study period ends with an exam period, and then new courses start the following week. Not all scheduled elements are mandatory, and when you have gaps in your schedule, you can choose how you organize your studies. The elements in the schedule are mainly exercises, lectures or seminars. There may also be excursions, labs and a few other things where information comes well in advance. It requires more personal responsibility from you as a student, but university studies are often experienced as both more fun and freer than high school studies!
Your rights as a new student
In order for us to have a good relationship within the Teknologkår, there are a number of board documents that describe how we should act towards each other. Here we have tried to summarize your rights as a new student. If someone has restricted your rights or if you have other questions, you can contact one of the nollning officers, equality representatives, the Student Social Officer at the Union or the Union President. Contact details can be found at the bottom of this page.
Respect and treatment
The organization of the Teknologkår should be characterized by joy, community, openness and acceptance. The nollning should be inclusive. Our vision is that all students should receive good treatment and be treated on equal terms. We have zero tolerance for harassment, discrimination and offensive special treatment. Zero tolerance does not mean that incidents do not happen, but that if they do happen, we are obliged to address it, work preventively and support those who are vulnerable. Participation during the nollning should also be completely voluntary.
Alcohol and drugs
The Teknologkår shall promote a healthy attitude towards alcohol. Choosing alcohol-free should always be a natural alternative and no one should feel encouraged or forced to consume alcohol to fit in at the Teknologkår events. This means that you should not have to endure harassment or questioning comments if you choose to drink less or not drink at all. During the nollning, both alcohol-free activities and activities where alcohol is served are organized.
We also have zero tolerance for drug use.
Power Position
Mentors and other officials may have a position of power over the new students. Therefore, it is important that all officials include the Nolla, do not treat the Nolla differently and refrain from intimate contact with the Nolla. This applies to both language use and all forms of actions.
You decide your boundarys
No one else can decide when you have or have not been subjected to harassment, abusive treatment or discrimination. Only you can decide that. An event or situation is considered abusive if it is experienced as such. If you feel disrespected or mistreated by an official during the nollning, The Øwerphøs can talk to the person, give the person a warning or block the person from participating in the nollning. If you do not want to contact the Øwerphøs, you can also contact one of the other people at the bottom of this page. Everyone can also answer any questions about the process or our governing documents.
