Lund is a student city with many academic traditions. Your initial time as an LTH student can be confusing, especially with all the new and unusual words! That is why this Lund glossary can be helpful for navigating the city and student life more easily.
AF Bostäder
AF Bostäder is the Lund students' own housing company. Once you are accepted, you should join this housing queue. As a first-year student, you get "Novisch Priority" (Novischförtur), which means you have priority access to certain AF Bostäder properties between July 12 and July 14.
Academic Quarter (Akademisk kvart)
Even if your course schedule (and TimeEdit) states that a lecture starts at 08:00, it usually means it starts at 08:15. After 18:00, the "double quarter" (dubbelkvart) applies, meaning 18:00 actually means 18:30, and so on. If the schedule says "18..", it means the activity starts at exactly 18:00 sharp, known as "dot-dot" (prick-prick). Note: Exams always start dot on time.
This academic quarter tradition stems from the time when students did not carry pocket watches. They relied on the church clock (Lund Cathedral) striking every hour, after which they had fifteen minutes to get to their lecture.
Arkad
The career fair organized annually by the Faculty of Engineering Students' Union (Teknologkåren).
CSN
The source of the money that rolls in on the 25th of the month, gets spent at the nation (see Nation) and on coffee (see Ester and K-café), resulting in a diet of noodles and lentils from the 20th onwards.
Gallien
The K-section's guild room next to Wåtis (see Wåtis) at KC (see KC) by the C entrance. Inside Gallien, you will find Mitokonditoriet, where the selection of coffee and snacks (fika) can be a real lifesaver.
Gasque
a) A student dinner (sittning).
b) A venue inside the Student Union Building (Kårhuset) where exams or student dinners are held.
KC
Short for Kemicentrum (Chemical Centre). The natural habitat of W-students. Here you will find, among other things, the section room Wåtmarken and the Guild's other spaces.
Lophtet
LTH's oldest building, which is nowadays used as a party venue. Located next to KC (see KC).
Lundagård
A park in central Lund right next to the Cathedral, where events like Nollelördagen take place.
Mitokonditoriet
The K-section's café. A go-to spot for affordable fika. Located inside Gallien (see Gallien).
Natfak
A common room originally intended for science students, but Rekosar often hang out here since it is close to Wåtis.
Nation
Student organizations that host pubs, brunches, etc., and manage a portion of student housing. Joining a nation is highly recommended, which you do when signing up for Studentlund (see Studentlund).
Nolla
A newly hatched engineering student who has not yet completed the orientation period (Nollning). A Nolla officially becomes a First-Year (Etta) only after taking part in the final ceremony during Nollegasquen.
Nollegasque
The final ceremony where a Nolla officially becomes a First-Year (Etta) and is finally allowed to put on their Engineering Cap (Teknologmössa).
Novisch
A new first-year student in Lund—in other words, you. Within LTH, we most often use the word Nolla instead to describe newly admitted students.
Teknologmössa (Engineering cap)
A cap worn by engineering students on formal occasions, such as Nollegasque. The cap—which is white in summer and navy blue in winter—features a tassel attached with colored bands called spegater. The color of the spegater indicates the student's program, and the quantity indicates their academic year. The cap must absolutely not be worn until it has been "drunk in" during Nollegasquen.
Phadder
Your mentors during the orientation period (Nollning). Phaddrar are there to answer all your questions and make you feel like part of a new community where everyone is welcome!
Rama
To carry someone as a passenger on your bicycle frame/rack.
Reko
The nickname for the W-section. A neat blend of Risk (Risk) and Eco (Eko). Rekosar at Reko are solid people (reko)!
Sektion (Guild/Section)
There are 11 student sections in total at LTH. These can consist of one or several degree programs and are run entirely by students, for students. The W-section consists of the Ecosystem Engineering and Risk, Safety & Crisis Management programs.
Sittning
A formal or semi-formal dinner in a student context. Sometimes themed, sometimes requiring formal wear. There are also "trashy" dinners called Slasque, where the dress code is your overall (ouwen).
Sjön Sjøn
Located between the Mathematics Building and the E-Building, this is a pond made partly of water and partly of objects like couches and bicycles. Cleanup efforts began in 2022, which is why it is no longer the site for the annual Regatta during Nollning. Inside Sjön Sjøn lies the island Ön Øn. On Ön Øn stands the kiosk Kiosken Kiosken.
Spex
A short theatrical comedy performance during a sittning. A spex can also refer to a group of Lund students who put on longer, more professional musical comedy productions at places like AF-borgen.
Studiecentrum (Study Centre)
The central hub for all engineering students on the LTH campus. Here you will find the KFS bookstore, study spots, computers, printers, and a lunch restaurant/café.
SVL, Studievägledningen (Academic Advisory)
You can turn to the SVL if you run into academic difficulties, need guidance, or want to take an extra course on the side, such as dynamic accordion mechanics.
Utskott (Committees)
Various executive arms of the Guild, run by active members (funkisar). You can find the committees under the "About the Guild" section in the main menu.
Wåtmarken (Wåtis)
The W-section's cozy common room at KC (by the C entrance). You are always welcome here to hang out with other Rekosar, heat up your lunchbox, study, or relax on the couch.

Inside Sjön Sjøn lies the island Ön Øn. On Ön Øn stands the kiosk Kiosken Kiosken. Kiosken Kiosken is at its prettiest when painted turquoise <3
